This week, CompTIA held its third annual Excellence in Cybersecurity Award ceremony at the National Press Club in Washington D.C. The ceremony recognizes members of Congress and federal agency program managers who are making important strides in using federal resources wisely to improve the cybersecurity skills of those who work for the U.S. Government.

At this year’s CompTIA Annual Member Meeting held last week in Chicago there was a fascinating panel session titled, “Smart Cities – How Leading Cities are Implementing Development Plans,” moderated by David Logsdon, senior director, federal advocacy at CompTIA.

Wednesday morning began with the Capitol Hill morning speaker series featuring members of Congress and high-ranking officials from the executive branch. We received an informative overview of government priorities for the coming year around the tech agenda. The information shared allowed attendees to increase their knowledge of issues before hitting the halls of Congress for an afternoon of Fly-In meetings.

On February 14th, we honored our technology policy champions at the CompTIA Tech Champion Awards dinner at Fly-In. The Tech Champion Award is given to one member of the House of Representatives, one member of the Senate, and one executive from industry who has exemplified leadership in the technology sector and have championed policies that advance the country's information technology (IT) industry. This year’s CompTIA Tech Champions are New Jersey Senator Cory Booker, Texas Representative Will Hurd, and North Carolina businessman Ron Culler the 2017 CompTIA Tech Champions.

Following a working lunch, the CompTIA Tech Policy Summit got underway, which featured panel discussions on the cybersecurity workforce, Internet of Things (IoT), and a glimpse at the federal tech policy agenda for 2017.

This week, CompTIA held its sixth annual 2017 CompTIA DC Fly-In. Joined by our Fly-In Partner, the Technology Councils of North America (TECNA) and some 20 different state tech councils, there were more than 140 technology executives and business owners representing 29 states who attended the two-day event on February 14 and 15.

What does the new administration mean to the drone market? And how does the state play a role in UAVs? PrecisionHawk and AirMap executives provide insight into their experience with the FAA and the UAV market.

More data, cheaper data and new technical feasibilities are placing us at the cusp of a world where humans and machines are natural, seamless and meaningful extensions of one another – a world that has both incredible promise and incredible danger.

Each year, CompTIA advocacy members meet to network and hear from speakers on emerging federal and state policy and governance issues impacting the U.S. tech industry. CompTIA’s 2016 National State Government Affairs (SGA) and State and Local Government and Education (SLED) meeting was held November 15 to 16 in Nashville and offered a range of sessions.

Technology insiders and advocates spent the second day of the TechAmerica D.C. Fly-In focused on data security, the Internet of Things and the overall future of the IT industry. The morning’s speakers included two U.S. Representatives, a policy adviser for the National Economic Council and representatives from the FCC and FTC.
