Each year as part of the CompTIA DC Fly-In we recognize individuals who exemplify leadership in the technology sector; and who have championed policies that advance the country's IT industry. This year we recognized three people who have worked tirelessly to promote technology and the digital economy. The 2016 Tech Champion winners are Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Representative Anna Eshoo (D-CA) and Tino Mantella, the President and CEO of the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG).
Senator Orrin Hatch
Senator Orrin Hatch has been a leader in the United States Senate on many issues critical to the technology industry. He was a leader in the Senate on the passage of Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) legislation that allow U.S. based tech companies the opportunity to compete in the global economy. Senator Hatch was also instrumental in the permanent extension of the R&D tax credit.
Representative Anna Eshoo
As the Ranking Member of the Energy and Commerce subcommittee on Communications and Technology, Representative Anna Eshoo has championed many of the most important technology bills in the House of Representatives. Rep. Eshoo represents Silicon Valley and Stanford in the U.S. House and fully understands the need to spur innovation and promote new technologies. Rep. Eshoo introduced the Permanent Tax Freedom Act that would block all future attempts to tax internet access.
Tino Mantella, President and CEO, TAG
For the past 12 years, Tino has served as the President and CEO of the Technology Association of Georgia. In his role he has grown the membership by more than 500% and built a board made up of over 60 prestigious stakeholders. Tino has been instrumental in building a first rate policy initiative in Georgia promoting sound technology policy at both the state and federal level.
