New Report Offers Details on Technology Industry in New Mexico

CompTIA Cyberstates 2020™ report reveals tech sector’s impact

Santa Fe, N.M. – Information technology (IT) employment in New Mexico totals nearly 68,000 workers, according to Cyberstates 2020™, the definitive guide to the U.S. tech industry, occupations and trends published annually by CompTIA, the leading trade association for the global IT industry.

Net tech employment in New Mexico stood at 67,743 at the end of 2019, accounting for 7.6% of the state’s workforce. Tech-related employment increased by 700 jobs last year.

There are an estimated 3,360 tech business establishments in the state.

The tech sector generates $8.6 billion in economic activity, just under 10% of the state’s economy.

The estimated median tech occupation wage in New Mexico is $82,264, 114% higher than the median wage for all occupations in the state.

Cyberstates 2020 is based on CompTIA’s analysis of data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, Economic Modeling Specialists International (EMSI), Burning Glass Technologies, Hoovers and other sources.
