Metro area is home to 38,000 tech workers, according to CompTIA Cyberstates 2019™

Albuquerque, N.M. – Tech-related employment in the Albuquerque metropolitan area held steady in 2018, according to Cyberstates 2019™,  the definitive guide to tech sector and workforce analytics released this week by CompTIA, the leading technology industry association.

Net tech employment in Albuquerque is now estimated 38,049 workers, or 9.4 percent of the region’s total workforce.[1]

Tech occupations in high demand include computer system and cybersecurity analysts (+3.2 percent year over year growth).

The median tech occupation wage in the market is $87,352; 118 percent higher than the median wage for all occupations.

The tech sector’s contribution to the local economy is estimated at $6.1 billion, equal to about 15.2 percent of the total economy. That economic impact is the 11^th highest among 46 U.S. metropolitan statistical areas covered in the report.

The outlook for future employment growth is positive. The Albuquerque market saw an 80 percent increase in the number of job postings related to emerging technologies.

Cyberstates projects the Albuquerque area’s base of tech occupation employment – a subset of net tech employment – will grow by 3.3 percent in the region by 2026.
