CompTIA Cyberstates 2020™ report reveals tech sector’s impact
Carson City, Nev. – Nevada led the nation with the largest percentage increase in new information technology (IT) occupation hiring in 2019, according to Cyberstates 2020™, the definitive guide to the U.S. tech industry, occupations and trends published annually by CompTIA, the leading trade association for the global IT industry.
Tech-related employment increased by 6% last year, with more than 4,000 new jobs added. Net tech employment in Nevada stood at 71,275 at the end of 2019. That represents 4.8% of the state’s workforce.
Between 2010 and 2019 net tech employment increased by 42.2%, with 21,168 new jobs. More than 12,000 jobs were added in the Last Vegas metropolitan area, a 36.9% increase for the decade.
The median tech occupation wage in Nevada is $70,263, 72% higher than the median wage for all occupations in the state.
The tech sector generates an estimated $7.6 billion in economic activity, about 4.8% of the state’s economy. There are nearly 5,200 tech business establishments in the state.

Cyberstates 2020 is based on CompTIA’s analysis of data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis, Economic Modeling Specialists International (EMSI), Burning Glass Technologies, Hoovers and other sources.
