WASHINGTON – CompTIA, the world’s leading technology association, released the following statement from CompTIA’s executive vice president for public advocacy Elizabeth Hyman in support of the introduction of the Immigration Innovation Act, or I-Squared, by Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT).

“CompTIA fully supports the introduction of the I-Squared bill by Senator Hatch. This legislation is crucial to ensuring the United States remains competitive in a global economy. While CompTIA is spending tens of millions of dollars a year on education, training and certifications to prepare American workers to fill the technology jobs of tomorrow, we still expect a shortfall of domestic workers. With more than 600,000 open technology positions open across the country today, and an estimated a 1.8 million shortfall in tech workers by 2024, high-skilled immigration plays a vital role in augmenting our native workforce to meet the future demands. 

Moreover, high-skilled immigration has led to significant entrepreneurial advancement in our country, with each new innovation leading to more jobs and opportunity. We must better align our high-skilled visa program with the demands of the market. This legislation will help us retain many of the world’s brightest who are educated in our country but otherwise would be forced to take their talents home. We look forward to working with Senator Hatch and all members of Congress to finally pass this important legislation.”
