WASHINGTON – CompTIA, the world’s leading technology association, released the following statement from CompTIA’s executive vice president for public advocacy Elizabeth Hyman regarding today’s NIST, White House, Department of Commerce and Homeland Security report on the need for immediate and sustained improvements to the country’s cybersecurity workforce.

“The foundations of the U.S. economy, infrastructure and national security are only as strong as the men and women who operate our cybersecurity defenses,” said Elizabeth Hyman, CompTIA’s executive vice president for public advocacy. “It is time for new thinking when it comes to cybersecurity skills training.  It is time for apprenticeships, skills training for veterans, women and minorities, and the end of a myopic mindset that has limited to the cyber work pool to only those deemed to be math and science savants. The time is now for investment from the private and public sectors to tackle the cybersecurity worker gap like every other national challenge like we have faced in the past.”
