Washington, D.C. – The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), the leading association for the global information technology (IT) industry, issued the issued the following statement, attributed to Cinnamon Rogers, executive vice president for public advocacy, on today’s implementation of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), the new trade agreement between the three countries:
“CompTIA is pleased to see the landmark USMCA trade agreement entered into force today. This agreement will revolutionize how the world treats technology goods and services by recognizing the importance of the free flow of data and strong intellectual property rights. It contains the strongest digital trade chapter to date, and we encourage the Administration and governments around the world to use USMCA as the foundation for all future trade agreements.”
According to CompTIA’s annual “Tech Trade Snapshot 2020,” U.S. exports of technology products and services totaled $338 billion in 2019. The report showed that Mexico and Canada were the leading trading partners for tech exports from the U.S. It also found that tech exports between Mexico and Canada directly supported more than 257,000 U.S. jobs in 2018, the most recent year of data available. CompTIA’s “Tech Trade Snapshot 2020” is based on an analysis of import and export data from the U.S. Office of Trade Policy and Analysis, the U.S. International Trade Association, the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis and The Trade Partnership’s CDexports database.
