Pilot program underway for new CompTIA Cybersecurity Trustmark

Dec 7, 2022

Organizational credential will help MSPs establish a foundation of robust cybersecurity practices and procedures

DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. CompTIA, the nonprofit association for the information technology (IT) industry and workforce, said a pilot program is underway to create a new cybersecurity credential for the managed service provider (MSP) community.

The CompTIA Cybersecurity Trustmark is based on the 18 CIS Critical Security Controls identified by the Center for Internet Security and other frameworks as industry-accepted best cybersecurity practices.

“This new trustmark is designed to help MSPs establish a starting point for their security journey,” said Wayne Selk, vice president, cybersecurity programs at CompTIA and executive director of the CompTIA Information Sharing and Analysis Organization (ISAO). Selk unveiled plans for the CompTIA Cybersecurity Trustmark at today’s ChannelPro Network Cybersecurity Online Summit: Smart Security.

The uniqueness of the MSP industry is a key motivator in CompTIA’s decision to create a new cybersecurity trustmark, according to Selk.

“MSPs have multiple customers in various industries with different compliance and regulatory environments,” he said. “These customers are looking for something more than assurances from an MSP that they have comprehensive cybersecurity practices in place.”

The pilot now underway involves companies that have previously earned the CompTIA Security+ Trustmark.

The formal launch of the new CompTIA Cybersecurity Trustmark is planned for Q1 2023. MSP interested in participating in the program can register at https://connect.comptia.org/membership/corporate/comptia-trustmarks/waitlist.
