CompTIA Names Victor Johnston its Member of the Year

Jul 29, 2018

North Carolina business owner is actively engaged with CompTIA across the entire association

Downers Grove, Ill. – The owner of a North Carolina leadership consulting business whose career path has also included military service, government contracting and starting up his own tech business has been named the Member of Year by CompTIA, the world’s leading technology association.

Victor Johnston, CEO of Inspired Business Innovations in Fayetteville, N.C., will be recognized as the association’s member of the year at CompTIA ChannelCon 2018 in Washington, D.C., July 31 through August 2.

“Since his first contact with CompTIA, Victor has epitomized what it means to be an active and engaged member of an industry association,” said Nancy Hammervik, CompTIA’s executive vice president for industry relations.

“Victor has volunteered well over 2,000 hours of his time in the past six years, providing his unique insights, leadership and personality to several CompTIA initiatives, including our Advancing Women in Technology, Advancing Diversity in Technology, Future Leaders and IT Security communities, as well as his local chapter of the CompTIA Association of IT Professionals,” she added.

Johnston, 33, said his membership in CompTIA has provided him with opportunity.

“It’s the opportunity for community, friendships, knowledge and economic growth,” he explained. “It’s the opportunity to be better tomorrow than what you were today.”

Johnston carries that message forward in his role as CEO of Inspired Business Innovations. The training and consulting firm specializes in coaching, mentoring, developing, diversifying, and improving team cohesion, all with the goal of making positive, long-lasting impacts in the corporate and social worlds by helping others see the potential in themselves.

This is the second business that Johnston has started. In 2012, he opened Johnston IT Consulting, which initially catered to the technology needs of small businesses. That same year, Johnston attended CompTIA’s Breakaway conference (now known as ChannelCon). Through connections made at the conference Johnston was able to expand and grow his business.

Attending CompTIA events year after year also led Johnston to find a new direction, and to expand his involvement with the association. This includes serving as chairman of the Future Leaders Community, which was founded with the idea of understanding and embracing the multi-generational workforce and building best practices to help younger technology professionals grow and thrive in their careers.

Johnston is also a proponent of CompTIA’s industry-leading certification program, which is where his relationship with the association began. He is certified in CompTIA A+, Network+, Project+, and Security+. He also holds several CompTIA Stackable Certifications.

“CompTIA is unlike most other businesses I’ve met in my life,” Johnston said. “I feel so proud to [be] identified as the embodiment of those values.”

Johnston will be recognized as CompTIA Member of the Year at noon (EDT) on Tuesday, July 31, at CompTIA ChannelCon 2018.
