CompTIA IT Fundamentals Beta Exam Now Available

Mar 5, 2018

Downers Grove, Ill. – CompTIA, the leading provider of vendor-neutral skills certification for the global information technology (IT) industry, today announced the availability of a beta exam for the newest version of its CompTIA IT Fundamentals credential.

The CompTIA IT Fundamentals beta exam focuses on the knowledge and skills required to identify and explain the basics of computing, IT infrastructure, software development, and database use.

“CompTIA IT Fundamentals can be the jumping off point for a career in IT, and a stepping stone to more advanced certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+ and Security+,” said Tazneen Kasem, CompTIA product manager.

“It’s also relevant for workers in jobs that require a broad understanding of IT,” she added. “Earning the credential demonstrates an individual’s readiness for the digital workplace. Organizations can use the exam to prepare their non-technical employees for digital transformation.”

The exam covers five foundational aspects of technology: Infrastructure, Applications and Software, Software Development, Database Fundamentals, and Security.

Test takers must demonstrate their knowledge and ability to explain and use programming concepts; understand the purpose of databases and how to interface with databases; install software; establish basic network connectivity; identify and prevent basic security risks; and explain troubleshooting theory and the preventative maintenance of devices.

Registration for the CompTIA IT Fundamentals beta exam (FC1-U61) is open at http://www.pearsonvue.com/comptia/.

Exam objectives for CompTIA IT Fundamentals (FC1-U61) are available at https://certification.comptia.org/certifications/it-fundamentals.

Beta test takers will be notified later this year – after the beta phase has concluded – whether they’ve passed the exam and earned their CompTIA IT Fundamentals certification.
