CompTIA CSA+ Certification Approved for DoD Information Assurance Workforce Improvement Program

Oct 17, 2017

Downers Grove, Ill. – CompTIA, the leader in vendor-neutral skills certifications for information technology professionals, said today the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) has added CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst (CSA+) to its list of approved certifications for the DoD cyberspace workforce.

Following a rigorous department review, CompTIA CSA+ is now included in DoD Directive 8570.01-M, which details requirements for the training, certification and management of the department’s cyberspace workforce.

“CompTIA is strongly committed to strengthening the nation's cybersecurity posture, whether it’s through education for employees, best practices for organizations or high-stakes certifications for IT professionals,” said Joe Padin, CompTIA’s vice president for U.S. federal and education sales. “We’re honored to continue our work with the Department of Defense as it strengthens its cyber defenses through the use of education, training and certification for its cyberspace personnel.”

DoD Directive 8570.01-M requires IA technicians and managers to be trained and certified in baseline requirements. CompTIA CSA+ is approved as a baseline certification for five categories of cybersecurity professionals: Cyber Security Service Provider (CSSP)-Analyst, CSSP-Incident Responder, CSSP-Infrastructure Support, CSSP-Auditor, and Information Assurance Technical Level II.

“Today’s cybersecurity professional needs strong analytical skills, whether they’re working on the front line of the nation’s cyber defense or at work protecting the private sector,” said Dr. James Stanger, chief technology evangelist for CompTIA. “With CompTIA CSA+ certification, a cybersecurity professional can demonstrate that they have the ability to identify potential risks and vulnerabilities before an intrusion happens so that resources can be allocated where they’re most needed.”

In addition to its inclusion in DoD Directive 8570.01-M, CompTIA CSA+ is ANSI accredited and complies with the ISO/IEC 17024 standard for personnel certification programs.

CompTIA CSA+ is also a key element in the CompTIA Cybersecurity Career Pathway, which helps IT professionals achieve cybersecurity mastery, from beginning to end.
