I have had the opportunity to speak with many leading, solution providers, security vendors and more over the coming months and one thing is clear—there is a definite need for training programs across the channel.

Not just any training program will do; programs that are focused on developing and nurturing better partners are truly needed, including those that cover multiple facets of a company’s business. It only makes sense that the best channel partners are running their business with optimal efficiency across a broad spectrum of areas including sales, customer service, and marketing. Training has to include key operational areas such as accounting, human resources, legal, and others. This same level of efficiency needs to be seen from the vendors, distributors, and those that are part of the product and services “food chain” that encompasses the channel today.

We have had many discussions on this need for training during our IT Security Community calls. It is hoped that CompTIA can deliver on many of these fronts; you will see the first round of video on demand training programs hit the Member Resource Center in the coming weeks. Initial topics include implementing a security plan, communicating the value of security to your staff and customers, as well as a primer on ethical hacking.

Key business process areas like accounting/finance, human resources, and legal will be covered in other CompTIA Community programs. In addition, fundamental consultative selling, understanding regulatory issues, financially justifying a security solution recommendation and effectively matching customer needs with security product features and benefits will be developed for members to utilize.

What training program topics will help your business improve and make you a better partner? Join the discussion and have your voice heard as we strive to develop additional business-centric training programs, tools, and resources in the coming months.
