CompTIA Endorses STEM Education Bills in Florida

Last week, CompTIA voiced its support for enhanced teacher certification and computer coding instruction legislation currently under consideration in the Florida House and Senate.  Specifically, CompTIA wrote the following letter (hyperlink to attached) in support of HB 189 and SB 432, which would allow individuals holding a Master’s degree in a STEM-related field to obtain a teaching certificate.

In addition, CompTIA endorsed HB 887 and SB 468, which would allow foreign language credit in Florida schools for computer coding courses and would require Florida colleges and universities to accept these courses for admission.  HB 189 passed the full House February 18 and is now under consideration in the Senate.  Its companion, SB 432 will be considered in the Senate Appropriations Committee on February 25.  HB 887 and SB 468 have both passed out of their respective committees and are under consideration in the full House and Senate.
