Washington, D.C. – CompTIA, the leading trade association for the global technology industry, released the following statement from CompTIA’s executive vice president for public advocacy Elizabeth Hyman regarding today’s passage of the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act in the United States House of Representatives.
“The Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act will allow states and local communities to align their workforce needs with what’s being taught in their community classrooms. Only about half of all tech jobs require a four-year degree, and today’s update to the Perkins Act provides the necessary flexibility to make investments in a wide range of education options that will prepare the nation’s workforce for the jobs of tomorrow.
“Technology has exponentially sped up the pace of change and has led to unprecedented workforce disruption. We owe it to our citizens to have a diverse education system that trains and re-trains them to keep up with new and emerging opportunities and enables our country to remain a global economic leader. We look forward to formal ratification of the bill by President Trump.”
