CompTIA Cyberstates™ 2018 report shows tech sector contributes $2.6 billion to economy
Augusta, Maine – Technology-related employment in Maine grew by 1.5 percent in 2017, according to Cyberstates™ 2018, the definitive annual analysis of the nation’s tech industry published today by CompTIA, the world’s leading technology industry association.
The tech sector is responsible for an estimated 4.7 percent ($2.6 billion) of the overall economy in Maine, which is home to some 2,800 tech business establishments.
Maine’s Cyberstates Innovation Score places the state 35th, up from its 42nd place ranking last year. This ranking is based on a state-by-state per capita analysis of new tech patents awarded, tech startups and new tech business establishments.
With an estimated 34,800 tech workers, Maine ranks 42nd in net tech employment.[1] Tech workers make up 5 percent of the state’s total workforce. The average tech industry wage in Maine is $77,310; 78 percent higher than the state’s average annual private sector wage of $43,320.
The strongest year-over-year job growth occurred in the categories of packaged software (+ 19.3 percent) and IT services and custom software services (+ 3.9 percent).
